In order to observe the post-Soviet phenomenon of "private distilleries" from a cultural-historical perspective and to interact with the local community through an accessible artistic practice, I decided to open a temporary distillery in the garage on the Estonian-Russian border.

The boat garage in Narva-Venice was the perfect place for my endeavor.

As a gentle "artistic intervention", we invited the local community to a Shabbat meal in the garage of the distillery. The aim was to overcome the difficult relationship with Eastern European Jewry, which dates back to the Soviet era. We left the working week behind us and “met” some of the distilled post-Soviet spirits.

This project is carried out with Narva Art Residency in cooperation with British Council in Estonia as part of the People to People Cultural Engagement Programme.
