
“ Mekas was referring to himself several times as a writer and therefore his camera became a pen. And I mean, Mekas took a lot of time to make a point with his camera. Perfecting his tools, namely time, image and sound, he developed a skill of an artistic distance that enables him to insist on his reality. And with this skill he was attaching himself to reality and giving this reality to his viewer. More importantly, in Mekas reality artists did exist as real people with a real agenda. And the reality of an artist was undoubted and celebrated. “

The lecture-perfomance was part of the event "Accidental Poems" - "Temporary Soundtrack" - Cross-disciplinary Musical event at Liebling House, Tel Aviv. This was a collaborative project of Music Information Centre Lithuania and Felicja Blumental Music Centre and Library, part of Jonas Mekas’ centennial organized by Lithuanian Cultural Institute.
